Maggi samples to be sent to Mysuru

A bench of Justices Dipak Misra and Prafulla C. Pant passed this order.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Wednesday directed the local commissioner to send samples of Maggi noodles for testing afresh at the Central Food Technological Research institute, Mysuru to find out the presence of lead.

A bench of Justices Dipak Misra and Prafulla C. Pant passed this order after hearing senior counsel Harish Salve, for Nestle and Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi for the Centre.

The central government had filed a class action suit before National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission against Nestle, alleging unfair trade practices, false labelling and misleading advertisements by the firm.

Mr. Salve argued the Chennai laboratory is not equipped to carry out required tests and that the samples should be sent to the Mysuru lab. The Attorney General agreed for this proposal.
