Hyderabad: The Minorities Commission on Tuesday ordered issuing of notices on the general manager, Uber India Systems Pvt Ltd, the East Zone deputy commissioner of police and the transport commissioner, on a complaint filed by the Telangana State Cabs and Bus Operators Association seeking action against the app-based taxi service management. The complaint was lodged by association president Syed Nizamuddin alleging inaction of the authorities following the death of driver Zaheeruddin, who had committed suicide due to alleged cheating by the Uber management.
Mr Nizamuddin said the Uber management had promised Rs 70, 000 as monthly income to taxi drivers who purchase their own cabs. Many drivers pledged their personal assets to raise money to join the scheme. He alleged that after 2 or 3 months, the company closed its shutters in a phased manner, leaving the drivers staring at severe financial problems and rendering them unable to maintain their families. Commission chairman Abid Rasool Khan said the complaint had been registered and notices had been served on the respondents and posted the case to January 1, 2016.
