Vijayawada: Union minister Nitin Gadkari on Saturday announced roads projects worth '65,000 crore for Andhra Pradesh, including the Rs 20,000-crore Outer Ring Road around the new capital Amaravati. Besides, works worth Rs 15,000 crore are under progress.
Participating in the foundation stone ceremony for the construction of the Sri Kanakadurga flyover here on Saturday, Mr Gadkari said the Centre would complete approvals and funds allocation for road projects by December next, if the state could complete land acquisition and submit the detailed project reports.
He said a regional office of the National Highways Authority of India would be opened in Vijayawada for the new state. The Centre would also start a research driving institute at Sivarajpalle in Prakasam district and an inspection centre at Kesarapalle in Krishna district.
The ministry was taking steps to set up driving schools in all Assembly constituencies, he said, adding that 30 per cent of driving licences are bogus across the country. Mr Gadkari said the Centre has approved construction of 788 km of National Highways at a cost of Rs 8,000 crore for 2015-16. He said 1,350 km had been recognised as National Highways in the state on which Rs 13,500 crore would be spent.
