Jayalalithaa calls for AIDS-free Tamil Nadu

Government had created the Tamil Nadu Trust for Children Affected by AIDS with a corpus of Rs 10 crore
Chennai: Emphasising the importance of bestowing love and support for the HIV - AIDS affected, Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa called for concerted efforts to create an AIDS-free and prosperous Tamil Nadu.
Stating that awareness campaigns and mass sensitising programmes had helped to drastically bring down the prevalence level, she reminded the people of the theme of World AIDS Day 2015: “Getting to Zero. Zero new HIV Infections. Zero Discrimination. Zero AIDS,” and said people from various walks of life should take concerted steps to achieve this goal.
“We should all strive to establish an AIDS-free and prosperous Tamil Nadu… We should bestow love and affection and support to the affected persons,” Ms. Jayalalithaa appealed.
The Tamil Nadu AIDS Control Society, which is involved in the prevention and control of HIV - AIDS, has created awareness among the adolescents in about 9,580 schools besides college students in the state.
The government had created the Tamil Nadu Trust for Children Affected by AIDS with a corpus of Rs 10 crore and has been supporting the education and medical needs of the children affected by HIV - AIDS.
