More chaos on road to Kempegowda International Airport

Work on altering Hebbal flyover, K.R. Puram underpass to increase travel time
Bengaluru: Commuting on Ballari road and traveling to the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) will be soon be chaotic as the Bengaluru Development Authority (BDA) will take up construction of two ambitious projects — two lane flyover by altering the existing Hebbal flyover towards Chalukya circle and underpass towards KR Puram on Outer Ring Road (ORR).
However, these two projects, after completion, are expected to solve traffic woes to a great extent.
BDA Commissioner T. Sham Bhat said that the projects have been taken up in an attempt to decongest the busy KIA Road and to ease congestion on Outer Ring Road between BEL junction and KR Puram.
The projects have been awarded to PJB Engineers Private Limited and the cost of the project has been estimated at Rs 87.02 crore.
The traffic density has increased manifold and the existing infrastructure has become inadequate leading to traffic logjam. These two projects which are expected to be completed in two years from commencement of actual work will be a major relief on both the stretches of roads; he said and added that necessary traffic diversion arrangements will be made in consultation with the traffic cops to minimise inconvenience to public movement.
The BDA prepared Detailed Project Report (DPR) by engaging a STUP project consultant and the contractor has been shortlisted after floating tenders. The PJB Engineering Private Limited qualified in both financial and technical feasibility, said Mr. Bhat.
Sources in BDA said that the existing flyover connecting from Esteem Mall towards Baptist hospital will be widened to 10.5 mtrs with unidirectional movement of vehicles. This will carry traffic heading towards Chalukya without any hiccups. Already, the Hebbal flyover carrying traffic towards Yelahanka has been widened. This is provided much required relief.
Simultaneously, underpass work will begin from Hebbal traffic police station towards KR Puram. The stretch will have underpass with 9 meter unidirectional traffic. At present the traffic flow crisscrosses beneath Hebbal flyover. The signal free corridor between Central Silk Board to Hebbal will be furthered until BEL circle, added sources.
