The word ‘intolerance’ not sufficient to describe fear among people: Arundhati Roy

Looking at the present scenario in India where people are killed and burnt alive, the word ‘intolerance’ is not sufficient to describe the fear under which people are living, said Arundhati Roy at Mahatma Phule Samata Parishad award function.

In her opinion the minorities live in a fear and hence ‘intolerance’ is inadequate to describe it. There is a need to coin a new word to describe all what is happening, says Roy.

She also said that the BJP-led government is promoting Hinduism and trying to promote their agenda in name of great reformers as ‘great Hindu’, one of such example is B.R.Ambedakar who left Hinduism and followed Buddhism.

The government is trying to rewrite history, say Roy, as they are divinding communities like Dalits, tribal, Muslims, Christians.

Roy made these comments in a function where she was honored with the Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Award by the Mahatma Phule Samata Parishad (MPSP) in Pune.

At the event Roy also said that anti-national attitude is hurting the emotions of all the Indians.

Roy also faced flak as she returned her National Award for Best Screenplay for the film "In Which Annie Gives It Those Ones", two weeks ago. She did so to join rising intolerance protest by artistes-writers.
