Theatre on two wheels

Hyderabadi Akram Feroze, along with actress Lia Hasler, will journey across five cities in India to stage a play

Akram Feroze, a theatre artist from Hyderabad is all geared up for his latest journey, across the country.

On December 1, Akram will set out with Swiss actress Lia Hasler on a theatre tour that will see both staging the play, The Lone Conqueror, across five cities — Pune, Bhopal, Delhi, Jaipur and finally, in Chandigarh.

The two are planning to backpack an estimated 3,000 kilometres and are also travelling on limited resources.

“All we have is a bike, we’ll be carrying a tent and are not sure about food either. We’ll see how it goes,” says Akram.

Akram is a veteran of road trips with a mix of theatre thrown in. He hit the headlines last year for a theatre tour he undertook in a truck.

Lia, meanwhile, is a frequent traveler to India and met Akram while performing a play in Madurai, Tamil Nadu last month.

“I’m going to travel as a backpacker for the first time in my life... unlike Akram, but I’m really excited about this journey,” she said.

The Lone Conqueror is a play co-written by Akram and Lia. It's a post-war drama about two individuals who are the lone survivors following a major world conflict.
