Interoperable criminal justice system soon

Data from various agencies to be inter-linked
Chennai: The Centre will launch interoperable criminal justice system (ICJS) across the country, which would interlink data from courts, police, transport, jail and revenue departments.
Delivering his keynote address on cyber security challenges in present day world at Information Systems Audit and Control Association’s (ISACA) annual conference “cyber security-prepare or pay”on Friday, Delhi sessions court judge Talwant Singh said at present ICJS is being run as a pilot project in Mandi district, Himachal Pradesh, where police, judiciary, jail, transport and revenue departments have been connected on the same platform.
“When somebody jumps traffic signal, the policeman will take fingerprint, then they would know whether he is an offender earlier or not. As soon as the police captures the information it is immediately transmitted to court, from court to jail, our system will become active and gives feedback whether that person is in look out only in that case or any more cases,” he said.
Pointing out that the proposal was submitted in 2013, Singh said because of the recent terrorist attack in Paris, the Union government approved the project and
sanctioned Rs 1,200 crore for implementing it.
He said the Centre plans to convert 18,000 courts to e-courts and digitise all document in record rooms and upload it on the Internet. “We have also submitted a proposal to link 500 jails in the country to their district headquarters through video conferencing.” Singh recommended that cyber law should be taught as a subject in universities.
