Bengaluru: With the rain giving relief after a fortnight the BBMP seems to have pulled up its socks and is filling potholes across the city. The civic agency has taken up brisk filling of potholes across all the eight zones.
As per the plan, the BBMP began pothole filling and repair or roads at East zone, West, Rajarajeshwarinagar, Mahadevapura and Dasarahalli zones. Besides, roads under Signal Free Corridor and Tendersure have also been taken up for make over, said sources in the BBMP.
Potholes in major and arterial roads will be filled up during the night to avoid inconvenience to movement of vehicles and other roads have been attended since Thursday morning. Some of the busy roads like Mysore Road, Old Madras Road, Marathahalli Road which had worn out due to the incessant rains have been fixed since Thursday morning.
Potholes on busy West of Chord Road and Maha Kavi Kuvempu (MKK) Road have been attended. Richmond Road, Residency Road and Museum which have been taken up for upgradation under TenderSure have been tackled to pave for smooth and bumpy-free ride.
ITPL main road, Graphite India Road, Varthur-Gunjur road, Sarjapura road has also been attended under Mahadevapura zone while Subroto Mukherjee road under Dasarahalli will be taken up on Friday, added sources. Nandakumar B, resident of Banaswadi questioned the quality of the pothole filling and asphalting work. He suggested the BBMP to do quality work on pothole filling which lasts long rather than getting opened up within a week’s time posing threat to motorists.
BBMP Commissioner G. Kumar Naik said that it was the primary duty of the civic body to provide pothole free road and to ensure the traffic moves at decent speed. Men, material and money have been made available to fill potholes across all the eight zones. However, the BBMP staff is keeping fingers crossed and praying rains do not cause havoc to pothole filling drive, he added. BBMP commissoner G. Kumar Naik inspected the works.
BBMP’s shoddy work exposed
Even before the Allalasandra flyover in Yelahanka zone is formally thrown open to public for movement of vehicles, the roads have already developed potholes exposing the shoddy work of the BBMP.
Motorists alleged that the BBMP has executed shoddy work on the flyover. First of all the project was delayed. Despite delay, the BBMP failed to keep the quality of the work.
Mayor B. N. Manjunath Reddy said that the Allalasandra flyover had been executed by the railways. The BBMP had shared the cost of construction of the flyover with the railways. However, the BBMP will ensure the roads are fixed, he added.
