Eastern entrance to Amaravati

Four-lane tunnel proposed under Seethanagaram-Undavalli range
Vijayawada: Amaravati capital city will get an underground tunnel as part of the four-lane east side entrance. According to officials, the state government is exploring all possibilities to remove some part of hill or dig underground tunnel in the eastern direction at Seethanagaram-Vundavalli location for providing eastern direction entrance to Amaravati capital city.
As per present plans, the government decided to provide eastern entranceto Amaravati capital from Kanakadurga Varadhi towards Guntur direction. CRDA also completed the study and planned to construct a four-way lane flyover bridge straightaway to Krishna canal bund from Kanakadurga Varadhi to Seethanagaram-Vundavalli stretch, which is adjacent to Prakasam Barrage.
But the hills are now a barrier to construct the important east entrance between Seethanagaram-Vundavalli. In this backdrop, CM N. Chandrababu Naidu also directed the CRDA officials to dig an underground tunnel to the hills for this purpose and now it has got huge significance and turned into a challenging task to planners and officials.
Some long years ago also, the state government had proposed an underground tunnel for diverting Kondaveeti Vagu to Krishna River from capital location villages as part of World Bank aid project, but it failed in implementation due to heavy risk involved in the tunnel digging work. Now the state government planned to lay four-way lane road by digging the hill.
But the issue turns into a big challenge for officials and planners but Mr Naidu is very keen to form the eastern side entrance to the capital city. Already the CM instructed in a meeting with the Capital Regional Development Authority (CRDA) officials to explore all possibilities to dig a tunnel for providing the east-side entrance. One official said the CM directed to construct road attractively without any curves.
