330 cadets pass out from Indian Naval Academy in grand ceremony

Mr Dhowan also congratulated the INA commandant and staff for training such fine cadets

KANNUR: The Passing-out Parade (POP) of 330 cadets of the Indian Navy and the Indian Coast Guard and six cadets from friendly foreign countries was held at the Indian Naval Academy (INA), Ezhimala here on Thursday.

This POP marked commissioning of the cadets of the 89th Indian Naval Academy Course (B Tech) and (M Sc) Courses into the Indian Navy here today morning.

Addressing the cadets, parents and officials, Chief of Naval Staff Admiral RK Dhowan said that commitment, courage, compassion, credibility and integrity, were the five virtues that helped the cadets to excel in the profession.

“Commitment towards your profession, your service to your nation always comes first”, he said, adding that commitment to serve national pride helped to make supreme sacrifices for the nation.

“Courage helps to face adversities, compassion towards men and women of the team helps understand the strengths and weaknesses of the teammates and to work shoulder to shoulder as friends and a team”, he noted.

Mr Dhowan also congratulated the INA commandant and staff for training such fine cadets. “It is a difficult task to transform a young girl or boy into a junior military leader and imbibe in them the spirit of a challenger, mind of a visionary, quest of a researcher and discretion of a soldier. We say it easily but it is a difficult task”, he said.

The passing-out cadets belonged to four different courses of the Autumn Term 2015, viz., the 89th Indian Naval Academy Course (INAC) B Tech and M Sc courses, the 20th Naval Orientation Course (Extended), and, the 21st Naval Orientation Course.

The Commander-in-Chief, Southern Naval Command, Vice Admiral Sunil Lanba and INA Commandant Vice Admiral Ajit Kumar P, also witnessed this momentous occasion.

The ‘Presidents Gold Medal’, for the cadet adjudged first in the overall order-of-merit of the INAC course was awarded to Flotilla Cadet Adjutant Jaswant Singh, ‘Chief of the Naval Staff Gold Medal’ for the cadet adjudged first in overall order-of-merit for the Naval Orientation (Extended) Course was awarded to Cadet Arun Balaji E. Cadet Darshita Babu was awarded the ‘Chief of the Naval Staff Gold Medal’ for the cadet adjudged first in overall order-of-merit for the Naval Orientation (Regular) Course and also the ‘Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief (South) Gold Medal’ for being adjudged the best woman trainee of the course. Parents of the cadets from all over the nation also witnessed the august occasion.
