4 schoolboys held for gangraping girl in Mumbai, circulating rape video
Mumbai: An incident of gangrape has come to light in Malad, where the family came to know about the incident only after a Whatsapp video forward. The incident took place on November 8, when a 15-year-old was gang raped by her boyfriend and his friends on the pretext of seeking help in studies.
According to senior police inspector with the Malad police station, Shashank Shanbhor, “All the four accused have been detained now and their medical inspection was conducted on Thursday. The accused are local minor boys, studying in class 9 and 10. These boys are infamous in the area for their bullying activities. As they are minors, they cannot be arrested and after being produced before a juvenile court, they have been sent to Dongri correction home on Thursday where they will be questioned by a Child Welfare Officer.”
According to a senior official with the Malad police station, “One day the minor girl’s aunt received a Whatsapp video forward on her mobile, which showed the rape. This video was viral in the area. After learning the facts, the aunt of the girl approached us on Wednesday, after which an FIR was registered. The four accused have been booked under relevant sections of rape, including Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.”
The girl studies in Class 10 and the accused boys live in her neighbourhood and are her schoolmates. According to police officials, the mastermind of the crime is the boyfriend of the victim, who along with his friends raped the girl on the pretext of seeking help with studies.
The police said the boyfriend asked the victim to come to the residence of one of his friends. At that time there was no one at the residence of the friend. When the girl reached the house she found two other boys waiting there. These boys raped her and shot a video, which after a a few days went viral on Whatsapp, said a police official. Although, the video was viral, the victim kept mum due to fear of shame. The girl has lost her father, while her mother had abandoned her. She lives with her aunt.
