Kiran Rao wouldn't be Aamir Khan's wife in 'intolerant' India: BJP leader

Azamgarh: If India would have been an intolerant country, then Kiran Rao would not have been Aamir Khan's wife, UP BJP chief Laxmikant Bajpai said on Wednesday, while terming the actor's remarks on 'intolerance' in the country, as a "national insult".

"If India would have been an intolerant country then Kiran Rao would not have been his (Aamir's) wife and even SP supremo Mulayam Singh, who favoured the cinestar, does not have any reply to this," he said.

The BJP leader said that the popular actor was in direct touch with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and could have raised the issue with him.

"If you (Aamir) would have raised the issue on the right platform, right solution would have been worked out," he said.

The actor had kicked up a political storm with his remarks at a function in Delhi on Monday about his wife expressing fear for their child in the current atmosphere.

He had said, "Kiran and I have lived all our life in India. For the first time, she said, should we move out of India... She fears for her child, she fears about what the atmosphere around us will be."

Bajpai termed the remarks as a "national insult". He said that the actor should meet the PM and take back his statement.

The BJP leader, who began a seven-day dharna against poor law and order condition in the state, also hit out at the Akhilesh Yadav government for "propagating complete anarchy".

Meanwhile in Jaipur, BJP vice president Om Mathur lashed out at Aamir Khan asking where he was during Mumbai terror attack and other incidents and why did he not speak his mind earlier.

"There is a conspiracy in the country to defame Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP and the actor also became a victim of this conspiracy and gave this statement which is totally uncalled for," Mathur said here.

"Mumbai suffered terror attacks on 26/11. Aamir Khan lives in Mumbai then why did he not speak it that time and why did Aamir and his wife not scare," he questioned.

However, the BJP leader said that the Bollywood superstar had become victim of the "conspiracy" to malign the PM.

"It is a conspiracy of some elements to tarnish the image of Prime Minister who is getting popular globally and I think the actor, too, became victim of that conspiracy and made the statement," he told reporters.

Mathur also paid a visit to Rajasthan Governor Kalyan Singh, which, he said, was for a courtesy meeting.
