Noble gesture: A driver from Kolar contributes a day’s salary every month to Indian Army

Nagaraj B was inspired by the soldiers who fight without caring for their lives

Tumakuru: Usually employees eye increments, perks and so on and so forth, but a government jeep driver in Kolar has found solace in contributing a day’s salary every month to Indian Army, which renders yeoman service to the country.

Nagaraj B was inspired by the soldiers who fight without caring for their lives and began to contribute a bit to the Army, responding to the government’s call of giving up their one day’s salary for Kargil Relief Fund in 1999. He started to contribute with Rs 130, which was his day’s salary in 1999 and even to this day regularly contributes to the Army. Now he contributes around Rs 850 per month based on his salary.

He believes that those working in Army are real heroes of the nation and he has given written instructions to the authorities concerned to deduct the day’s salary amount every month and send it to Army Central Welfare Fund, New Delhi.

“I feel proud to contribute a day’s salary every month to the Army, who are doing selfless service to the nation. It is my little contribution for the real heroes of the country and its gives me enough happiness”.

With the net salary of Rs 10,000 after all deductions, he also spends Rs 50 for supply of free water to Government Girls College of Kolar everyday. He also supplies eggs once in a week to the Anganwadi center in his locality of Kolar town.

He has also taken up Swacch Andolan programme along with his friend from this November 1, Rajyothsava day. As part of this programme he cleans the premises of DC Office and City Court along with Pourakarmikas of the Kolar municipality during morning hours. Nagaraj presently works as a driver for IAS probationary officer Raghunandan Murthy in Deputy Commissioner’s Office in Kolar.
