Bihar poll results a personal defeat for Modi, says Asaduddin Owaisi

Owaisi plays down defeat, says our party contested in Bihar for the first time

Hyderabad: All India Majlis Ittehadul Muslimeen president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi on Sunday said the BJP-led NDA’s loss in Bihar was a “personal defeat” for Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Reacting to his party’s poor performance in Bihar and the debacle of the BJP-Led NDA in the polls at his party office here, he said, “Our party contested in Bihar for the first time and it is true that we failed in gaining the confidence of the people of Seemanchal where we contested six Assembley seats.”

“Through this election we and our party introduced ourselves to the people of Bihar. During my campaign the people, not only Muslims, but others also told me that this time they have decided to defeat Modi; if you had come earlier, things would have been different. They want the MIM to continue its struggle for development of Seemanchal region,” he added.

While congratulating Nitish Kumar and partners of the RJU grand alliance for scoring a decisive victory, he said the Bihar election results were a personal defeat for Modi, as never in independent India’s history had a sitting PM got so involved in a state election by addressing 35 public meetings.
