Amidst Shastri-Naik spat, Virat Kohli touches curator’s feet

India Test skipper shows his respect for Mohali pitch in-charge Daljit Singh

Mohali: When Ravi Shastri (Team Director, India) and Sudhir Naik (curator, Wankhede Stadium) had a spat regarding the wicket for the fifth ODI against South Africa, Test skipper Virat Kohli – on the other hand – went and touched the 73-year-old Daljit Singh’s feet – the curator of the Mohali stadium ahead of the first Test against the Proteas.

Daljit – who has been associated with the stadium since 23 years – has seen the Delhi boy grow from a youngster to the Test team skipper. As soon as the skipper touched his feet, he acknowledged with a pat on his back.

Such a gesture, between a team member and pitch curator, could be the start of something new for Team India. Kohli’s behaviour is an example that the acrimony seen between one-time colleagues, Shastri and Naik, did not reach Mohali.

However, it remains to be seen whether the hosts can outdo the visitors in the Test series after being thrashed in the T20 and ODI series.
