Rain lashes Andhra Pradesh, more predicted

6.5 cm rain in Vizag, temperature drops to 27 degree celsius

Visakhapatnam: Several parts of AP, including Vizag, received fairly widespread rain on Satur-day due to the cyclonic circulation over the north Bay of Bengal and the northeast monsoon.

Met officials said that rain and hazy conditions may continue for another 48 hours. The weathermen also predicted strong surface winds from the north-easterly direction with a speed of 45 to 50 kmph along and off coastal Andhra Pradesh.

Heavy rain in Visakhapatnam since Saturday afternoon threw normal life out of gear, causing water logging and traffic congestion at Poorna Market, Gnana-puram, Allipuram, Gaju-waka, Maddilapalem, NAD Junction and Appu Ghar.

“A trough of low pressure in the Bay of Bengal doubled with intensifying northeast monsoon would result in moderate to heavy rain in isolated areas of the state,” a senior Met official said here on Saturday.

According to reports, heavy rainfall lashed various parts of the state.

Within 24 hours, Vizag registered 6.5 cm rain and the temperature in the city had also seen a steep drop to 27 degrees Celsius. On Saturday, Polavaram (West Godavari), Koyyalagudem (West Godavari), Palako-deru (West Godavari), Amalapuram (East Goda-vari), Srikalahasti (Chitt-oor), Thottambedu (Chitt-oor), Satyavedu (Chittoor) and Venkatagiri Kota (Chittoor) received more than 1 cm rainfall.
