Mumbai: South Africa trailed by 250 runs with eight wickets remaining at the close of play on the opening day of a warm-up game against an Indian Board President's XI Friday.

The Indians scored 296 all out after winning the toss and opting to bat first in the two-day match at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai.

Right-handed batsman Lokesh Rahul top scored for the Indian XI with 72 off 132 balls.

Naman Ojha was India's second-highest scorer, with the middle-order batsman notching 52 runs.

Paceman Dale Steyn and off-spinner Harmer grabbed three wickets each for South Africa, as the Indians were all out after 78.5 overs.

South African opener Stiaan van Zyl managed 18 runs while Harmer could only make four before being dismissed as the Proteas stood at 46/2 at stumps. Dean Elgar was on 18 not out.

The game is a warm-up for four Test matches. South Africa will be seeking a clean sweep, having won the Twenty20 series 2-0 and the one-day international series 3-2.
