Army notifies Telangana government, Hyderabad police on Gough Road closure

Date for gate closure not mentioned by defence officials
Hyderabad: Although the Army has made an official announcement on the closure of Gough Road (All Saints Church Road) they have not specified a date for that.
In a statement, they confirmed that the TS government and the Hyderabad police have been notified about the closure. The statement also says that other routes will remain open during the day for “some more time.”
“The state government and the police have been notified about the closure of Gough Road. The other roads would continue to remain open during the day for some more time as concerned agencies explore alternative roads. The Army is willing to provide assistance and we urge all agencies to complete arrangements fast. Emergency vehicles, like ambulances, fire engines, private vehicles with critical patients etc. would be allowed to go through AOC roads,” the statement said.
The officials said the Army is willing to give land leading to Mahendra Hills, however, it is waiting for a response from the state government.
“The willingness on the part of defence authorities to help in developing alternative roads along the periphery of AOC Centre towards Mahendra Hills has been communicated. A proposal from civic authorities is awaited. Ironically, the ire of the public appears to be directed at the Army which has no direct role in providing civic amenities rather than at those who are obliged to provide essential services,” added the statement.
The closing of Gough Road will hit the residents of RK Puram up to ECIL. This will also double the traffic on Trimulgherry Road which is already congested. As per a survey around 40,000 vehicles use this road daily.
Gough Road is the beginning of the defence area for those coming from RK Puram at one end and Trimulgherry from the other. This is the only main route for people travelling from East and West Marred-pally towards RK Puram.
The Army has already closed shortcuts which enabled the public to reach RK Puram. Once the road is closed entry will be limited to defence personnel. Pedestrians also will not be allowed.
