Cops in tizzy over ‘beef’ served in Kerala House

Police received a PCR call reportedly from a member of a right-wing organisation

New Delhi: The New Delhi district police went into a tizzy on Monday afternoon after it received a PCR call reportedly from a member of a right-wing organisation claiming that beef was being served at the Kerala House in Lutyens’ Zone.

Sources in the police said that immediately after the call, which was made at around 4 pm, a team of senior officers from Parliament Street police station headed by Jatin Narwal, deputy commissioner of police, New Delhi, went to the Kerala House to carry out a precautionary check, but found nothing. Kerala house is situated at Jantar Mantar, just metres from Parliament Street police station. “We reached the Kerala House within minutes after receiving the call and carried out a precautionary inspection,” said a senior police officer, adding, “We found, after checking the kitchen and questioning the staff, that beef was not being served.”

The police sources added that after ensuring that cow meat was not on the menu, senior police officers left the premises, leaving behind 3-4 policemen as a precautionary measure. “There was nothing problematic and no inconvenience was caused to workers and visitors of the Kerala Bhawan,” said the sources, adding, “We decided to station some policemen there for a couple of hours to thwart any untoward incident,” said the senior police officer, adding, “The senior police officers at the headquarters were also briefed about the situation.”

The Delhi police and their Uttar Pradesh counterparts have been reacting cautiously to any occurrence related to beef serving since the lynching of a man at Dadri in Uttar Pradesh a fortnight ago.
