Rahul Easwar’s car attacked for backing beef ban

Activist was asked to lend support to a beef festival organised in various Kerala colleges

Alappuzha: Rahul Easwar of the ‘Malayali House’ fame faced the wrath of the SFI and KSU students for his anti-Muslim and pro-beef ban stand at the Milad E Sherif Memorial (MSM) College in Kayamkulam on Thursday.

Mr Easwar, a social activist, had come to the college to take an awareness class for students on cyber security organized by the National Service Scheme unit in association with the Kerala State Youth Commission.

While he was returning around 11.45 am, the protesters surrounded his luxury car in front of the college shouting slogans and demanding that he drop his stand against cow slaughter. While he remained inside the car, the students allegedly damaged it.

Mr Rahul Easwar is the grandson of Kandararu Maheshwararu, the thanthri of Sabarimala. Visak, 19, Koppayil house, Pathiyoor, a KSU activist, was arrested in connection with the incident. “Two SFI activists have also been booked,” R. Rajesh, SI, said.

Mr Easwar, who is also the state coordinator of Youth Commission, said that at least 25 students attacked his car chanting anti-beef ban and pro-secularism slogans. “They held me hostage for some minutes and asked me to oppose the beef ban. I told them that Gandhji would have supported the beef ban.

A constable saved me from the violent students,” he said. “This is cultural fascism. This shows intolerance. They damaged my car stating I had not supported the beef festival,” said Mr Easwar. College principal Shaik Ahammed said he called Mr Easwar and apologised for the incident.
