THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: After several misses, the high-level committee entrusted to resolve the NH 47 and NH 17 development logjam, headed by Chief Secretary Jiji Thomson, met here on Tuesday.
The meeting took stock of the situation in which obstructions are currently being witnessed on both NH 47 and NH 17.
But due to the imminent local body elections where candidates were filing their nominations on Wednesday, none of the district collectors attended the meeting.
Instead, they had deputed deputy collectors and tahasildars belonging to Kasaragod to Thiruvananthapuram.
Mr Hanish told DC that on the basis of Tuesday’s review, the committee has asked the respective district collectors to take stock of the obstructions on the NH stretches once the local body polls are over.
“Intractable issues would be brought before the high level committee after the local body elections. The district collectors would hold a review meeting during the third week of Nove-mber,” said Mr Hanish.
The meeting which lasted for 90 minutes also decided to go ahead with stringent action against erring encroachers on NH 47 and NH 17 stretches.
Apart from the chief secretary, revenue additional secretary, PWD secretary A.P.M. Moham-med Hanish and NHAI chief general managers Chenna Reddy and project directors of National Highway Authority of India, C. T. Abraham and R. Venkatakrishnan attended the meeting.
