Notice to Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology over quota violation

KOZHIKODE: Kerala High Court has issued a notice to Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology (SCTIMST) and the union department of science and technology on a petition over the alleged violation of reservation norms.

The court also issued notices to the SC/ST national commissions and Union department of personnel and training seeking their response.

The petition was filed by SNDP Veloravattom branch president A.P. Reji based on a report published by Deccan Chronicle on July 27.

The petitioner said: “Being an institution of national importance under the Union department of science and technology, it is expected that the SCTIMST will follow the reservation policy of the Government of India. However, the petitioner and other like-minded persons have learnt from different sources that the SCTIMST is not implementing the reservation policy as far as Group A posts of scientists/engineers/ assistant professor and higher posts are concerned."

The details available with DC from 2007 onwards confirm that the institution has violated the government directives on top posts in this regard.

However, institutions like AIIMS, IISER, NITs, IITs etc are following the government rules on reservation.

Originally established by the Government of Kerala as an advanced centre for medical specialities, the SCTIMST metamorphosed into an ‘Institute of national Importance’ with the status of a university in 1980 under the department of science and technology, Government of India.
