Child rights panel seeks report from state

The school management has apologised and has assured to take action against the teacher
Hyderabad: Ramkoti, the father of the girl student who was beaten by her teacher at DMR International School at Asifnagar is a taxi driver and her mother Jyothi is a housewife. They live in Bhojagutta area of Asifnagar. On Monday, Sruthi’s homework was incomplete. When she informed the same to her Hindi teacher Qureshi, the latter got angry and severely beat her. Sruthi suffered injuries on her face and hands.
Her parents noticed the injuries on her body after she returned home. On Tuesday morning, they, along with a few neighbours, staged a protest in front of the school. “She was crying when she came home. When we asked her, she told us about the teacher and showed the injuries. For a small mistake, they beat her up so severely,” said Jyothi.
The school management has apologised and has assured to take action against the teacher.
“Though it was accidental, it is not correct. We have instructed all our staff to refrain from punishing students in any manner. And we will take action against the teacher who is responsible in this incident,” said school correspondent Dr Mohammed Rafiuddin.
Meanwhile, the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights took suo motu action and directed the Hyderabad DEO to inquire and submit a detailed report. However, no case has been registered. “We have not received any complaint from the victim. If we get a complaint, we will take necessary action,” said Asifnagar inspector P. Venkateshwarlu.
The State Commission for Protection of Child Rights also alleged that it had come to know that the school was collecting donations from philanthropists under the guise of providing free education. “But we came to know that the school was charging heavy fees from students claiming that it was an international school,” said SCPCR member Achyuta Rao.
