Govind Pansare murder case: SIT wants brain-mapping test on Gaikwad, files plea

Maharashtra SIT has issued notices to 25 relatives and close associates of Gaikwad

Belagavi/Hubbali: A Special Investigation Team (SIT), probing the murder of thinker and CPM leader Govind Pansare, will submit an application before the Kolhapur sessions court on October 3, seeking permission for brain-mapping test on Sanatan Sanstha member Sameer Gaikwad, who has been arrested in connection with Pansare's murder.

The SIT that has already extracted vital information from Gaikwad hopes to get some more vital clues through brain-mapping. The Maharashtra SIT has issued notices to 25 relatives and close associates of Gaikwad in the neighbouring Kolhapur, asking them to be present before them for inquiry over Gaikwad's works and movements.

The police team is hunting for three other associates of Gaikwad, who helped him run a store that sold spiritual books for the last few years. The SIT had recovered 23 mobiles phones from Gaikwad and also the SIM cards, which he had bought from different areas of Maharashtra, including Sangli, Pune and Mumbai.

The SIT is keen to question some of his associates and relatives with whom he was in regular contact through his different mobile phone numbers over the last few years. Already, 10 of his associates have been questioned, while notices have been sent to 25 others.

Two days ago, the SIT arrested three women in Kolhapur – Sharadha Pawar, Jyoti Kamble and Anjali Dharekar – in connection with Pansare’s murder.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has said that people with superstitious mindset were responsible for the killing of rationalist and Kannada research scholar Dr M.M. Kalburgi. Addressing the Belagavi divisional teachers' convention, organised by Avva Trust here on Tuesday, the Chief Minister said that such heinous crime is perpetrated only by religious fundamentalists, who lack rational and scientific temperament.

Terming his murder as inhuman, he said that government will initiate strict action against fascists if they indulge in violence. He also said that those responsible for the murder of rationalist Govind Pansare were involved in killing of Dr Kalburgi. Expressing concern over the involvement educated youths in such acts, he said that people should have respect for other religions.
