No shortage of funds for road development in state: Pon Radhakrishnan

Pon Radhakrishnan reacted positively to the MP’s request
KANNUR: Union Minister of State for Road Transport, Highways and Shipping, Pon Radhakrishnan, has said that there was no shortage of fund for road development in Kerala.
He was speaking at a seminar, ‘The development of Azhikkal port and National Highways of North Malabar’ organized by North Malabar Chamber of Commerce (NMCC) here on Monday. The state had to ensure that the land acquisition process would not be hampered, he said.
“Already, Rs 25,000 crore had been announced for the land acquisition for NH development in Kerala. The state had suffered a lot due to the stiff resistance towards land acquisition,” he said.
To a query, he said the Kannur bypass road had to come first and if needed, a flyover would be built at Caltex junction in Kannur city.
Ms P.K Sreemati MP, who spoke at the function, told the minister that she would ensure land for the NH development and bypass. “But we have to get a firm resolve from the minister regarding the fund,” she said. Pon Radhakrishnan reacted positively to the MP’s request.
The minister said that the central government wanted to develop all the 200- odd minor ports in the country to give a fillip to trade. NMCC president Sushil Aaron, secretary Sachin Suryakant and Mr Mahesh Chandra Baliga among others spoke.
