20 live bullets seized from baggage at Kochi airport

He is learnt to have been caught at level-4 of the security check
Kochi: In a bizarre incident, a passenger who arrived to board an Air Asia flight to Kuala Lumpur was caught by security personnel at the Cochin International Airport here with 20 live bullets late on Sunday night.
Salim Johar, 52 and a native of Kannur was caught by the security personnel with the bullets of .32 mm bore in his check-in baggage when it underwent screening at the airport.
He is learnt to have been caught at level-4 of the security check. Salim reportedly is an employee with a private international bank in Hong Kong.
He told the officials who interrogated him that he possessed a gun licence. However, this was not supported by any documents he carried with him.
The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel manning security at the airport handed him over to the Nedumbassery police after preliminary interrogation.
The police also interrogated him. Later, the relatives of Salim Johar arrived at the Nedumbassery police station and produced the gun licence.
Salim was let off by the police after extracting a written statement from him. Police sources said no case had been registered against him.
Airport officials said that bullets come under dangerous goods and were not allowed to be carried. “We hope police will take action in this case,” they said.
