BJP and Samajwadi Party blamed for Muzaffarnagar clashes

Contents of the report, submitted to UP governor on Wednesday, are still not known

Lucknow: The submission of the Muzaffarnagar riot inquiry report has kicked up a political row with the BJP and Samajwadi Party blaming each other on the issue and the Congress and BSP demanding strict action against the accused.

The contents of the report, submitted to the Uttar Pradesh governor on Wednesday, are still not known, but sources said it has pinned the blame on local BJP and SP politicians for instigating the riots in 2013 and also on local officials for their failure to control the situation.

The BJP, which has been blamed in the report, has rejected the findings. The contents of the reports are set to have a major fallout on the political situation in UP.

With panchayat polls already on and Assembly elections round the corner, the report is bound to be used to polarise voters on communal lines, the result of which will benefit the SP and BJP. Both parties may play the communal card to their advantage.
