Andhra Pradesh bureaucrats told to travel by rail, road

Officials of the AP government have been barred from having air travel

Hyderabad: Officials of the AP government have been barred from having air travel for shuttling between Hyderabad and Vijayawada as part of austerity measures imposed by the government. The officials have also been asked not stay in star hotels.

With AP Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu functioning from Vijayawada, there has been much up and down travels by babus from Hyderabad, and the government felt the need to lay down guidelines.

In a circular to special chief secretaries, principal secretaries, secretaries and heads of departments, the AP government said officers attending meetings at Vijayawada should not be accompanied by any staff member unless explicitly instructed by the CM or the Chief Secretary. The government said if the return flight tariff between Hyderabad and Vijayawada is higher than Rs 10,000, the officer will need to take a train or drive down.

The government said the officers will be accommodated in government guest houses or AP Tourism’s hotels, which will be refurbished by October 15.
