‘This is the right time for Courier Boy Kalyan’

Nithiin talks about his upcoming release and his experience as a producer

Nithiin’s new film Courier Boy Kalyan is set to release this Ganesh Chaturthi. Talking about it, the actor says, “I had completed the film almost a year back, but there were some problems with the Tamil film, hence the delay in release.”

He adds that on hindsight it is good that the film is releasing now. “The film is an experiment and a new genre. If it had released two years back, it might not have attracted the audiences, but I am confident that it will do better as it is releasing now,” says the actor.

Nithiin took eight months to start the film after his last release Chinnadana Neekosam. “So this film will fill the gap and I am happy that though the film was delayed, it is releasing at the right time,” he says, adding, “I have tried something new in this film, and if it is successful, it will allow me to try more new
genres.”

While the film is being projected as a Gautham Menon film, Gautham is actually the producer while debutant Prem Sai is the director. “We projected it as Gautham’s film,” says Nithiin, adding, “But once you watch it, everyone will appreciate Prem Sai, the director. But you can see Gautham’s artistic and realistic style too.” Talking about producing Akhil Akkineni’s debut film Akhil, he says, “A producer’s job is very tough. Though I have been involved earlier in my own films, this is the first time that I have been a full-fledged producer. You have to make everyone happy, it’s a tough job.”

Asked if Akhil was going over-budget, he says, “It’s a V.V. Vinayak film, so it would be a big one. We believed in our story and according to that we planned our budget.” He adds that the hype surrounding the film is positive and he is confident about it. Asked how confident he was putting so much money on a debutant, he says, “We are sure to recover our money. It’s already doing good business and I am confident that it will do better.”

Since he knows what producing a film is all about, couldn’t he have taken over Courier Boy Kalyan, which had been stalled due to financial problems? “I told Gautham while shooting that I would take over the film and release it myself. But he wanted to produce and release it,” says Nithiin.
