Acting in an all-girls movie

The chirpy Subiksha, who has acted in Malayalam, Tamil and Kannada movies, is now waiting for a Telugu break
A female cast in a horror flick almost always means being the damsel in distress or the scary ghost waiting to be dealt with by the hero. But Subiksha says her upcoming movie Girls offers a break from the stereotype. In the movie, she says, women have a more proactive role and even the ‘knight-in-shining-armour’ role is portrayed by a woman.
Girls, directed by Thulasidas, is a bilingual horror-thriller. “Shooting for Girls was a new and interesting experience. I act alongside Ineya, Aparna, Archana and many other talented actresses and all of us have interesting characters.”
“The most fun part is that the movie has an all-woman cast; there is not a single guy in the entire film! The film is being shot in both Malayalam and Tamil and one more schedule of the shoot is pending,” says Subiksha.
She is also excited about acting with Jackie Shroff in the upcoming Malayalam movie ATM-Any Time Money, directed by Jespal Shanmughan. “Jackie Shroff is very talented and it was great to get the opportunity to share screen space with him. He gave me so much support during the shoot and I got many tips about acting from him. He plays the anti-hero and I play a rich traditional girl who is in love with the hero, a guy from the slums. The movie, as the title suggests, is all about money and has the same feel as the popular Tamil film Billa. The shoot took place at Palakkad, which is incidentally my father’s hometown,” she says.
Apart from these projects, Subiksha will also be playing the female lead in the Malayalam thriller Celebrations, directed by Manjith Divakar and the Tamil film Ra Ra Rajasekhar, directed by Balaji Sakthivel. “Getting to work with Balaji Sakthivel sir was a dream-come-true! I got to learn a lot from him during the shoot.” So, was language a problem while acting in Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada movies?
“Since my father is from Palakkad and my mother from Bellari, I’m proficient in both Tamil and Malayalam and this has helped me a lot in finding a footing in both industries. My Kannada and Telugu are also good. I have already done a Kannada film, Sathish Ninasam’s Anjada Gandu and I’m waiting for a Telugu project now,” Subiksha sums up.
