English Premier League: Steven Naismith treble shocks Chelsea

Chelsea slumped to a 1-3 defeat at Everton on a day of contrasts for title hopefuls
London: Manchester City needed a 90th minute winner to beat Crystal Palace 1-0 and secure a fifth consecutive victory this season, while Premier League champions Chelsea slumped to a 1-3 defeat at Everton on a day of contrasts for title hopefuls.
Kelechi Iheanacho came off the bench in the 89th and poked the ball into the Palace net a minute later, as City maintained its perfect start to the season on Saturday.
But if things couldn’t have ended much better for City, they couldn’t have gone much worse for Chelsea, which was torn apart by Everton’s hat-trick scorer Steven Naismith.
While City have earned 15 points so far, Chelsea have just four. Elsewhere at the Emirates Stadium, Olivier Giroud came off the bench to ensure Arsenal didn’t pay for their profligacy in a 2-0 win over Stoke.
Theo Walcott had put Arsenal ahead in the first half, but the Gunners’ fans once again spent most of the afternoon frustrated at wasted opportunities before Giroud struck late on to secure their third victory of the season.
Meanwhile, Jose Mourinho refused to condemn his Chelsea flops after their Premier League title defence was plunged into turmoil. Mourinho’s side made a miserable start at Goodison Park as Scotland forward Naismith came off the bench to score twice in the space of five minutes mid-way through the first half.
