Industrial clusters to come up in West Godavari

Clusters will have high end technology to boost production
Rajahmundry: In a bid to promote setting up more industries in a big way, several industrial clusters dealing with gold jewellery, ceramics, coir and brass are coming up in parts of West Godavari shortly.
West Godavari District Industries Centre general manager in-charge V. Adi-seshu said, “Several clusters of industrial units of micro, small and medium scale are going to come up in parts of the district soon as APITCO has carried out a survey for setting up clusters of gold jewellery and ceramics.”
The Andhra Pradesh Industrial and Technical Consultancy Organisation has carried out a survey recently for setting up cl-usters of industrial un-its mainly dealing with gold jewellery at Eluru town and also ceramics at Dwaraka Tirumala.
It will prepare a diagnostic study report and send it to the development commissioner for micro, small and medium enterprises for further processing.
The registered societies involved in handling the gold jewellery and ceramics will form special purpose vehicles and the Ce-ntre will release funds under Central schemes while the state governme-nt also contributes its sha-re in addition to the contribution from the stakeholders to set up the clusters of industrial units.
The main purpose in setting up such clusters is to develop common facilities by installing state-of-the-art-technology equipment to be used by the workers to provide value addition to their products and undergo training in skill development.
About 450 goldsmiths are located at Eluru town involved in making gold jewellery. If any one of them intends to purchase a gold testing machine, he cannot afford to do so as it costs over '1 crore. The district industries authorities maintain that once a cluster of 10 or 100 or more industrial units is formed, all those who are a part of such cluster can avail sophisticated equipment installed in the common facility.
Similar is the case with ceramics with clusters coming up at Dwaraka Tirumala where 44 ceramics units are functioning at present.
