Watching too much TV can kill you, study claims

Older people are at an even greater risk

Even something as seemingly innocuous as watching TV could risk your life, scientists say. A new study reveals that idling in front of the idiot box for five consecutive hours or more doubles the chances of suffering a pulmonary embolism.

A pulmonary embolism means a condition when a blood clot obstructs an artery in your lung. The results were even grimmer for people who are older in age. Those between the ages of 40-59 were six times more likely to develop the condition.

This study was carried out over 18 years and examined 36, 007 men and 50, 017 women. It was funded by the Japanese government.

So this means we need to seriously think about putting a stop to those binge-watching sessions of our favourite TV shows.
