Tirupati: Students of S.V. Medical College assured the juniors that they would not indulge in ragging and instead put them at ease and extend the hand of friendship in a pleasant atmosphere.
Senior students, studying third and final year, said unitedly that they won't allow ragging because it hurts the juniors who are new to college and for the first time probably, staying away from their parents.
Juniors also were in agreement and relieved that there would be no ragging on their campus.
The recent incidents in which students took the extreme step of ending their lives made the state government take a serious view of the ragging and put an end to it.
“Junior students come here to study well with stars in their eyes about a good education and a bright career. They should not be tortured on the pretext of ragging. Ragging is no way to put newcomers at ease, especially when there is cruelty in it,” said Vishnu Bharadwaj, studying third year MBBS.
“We feel juniors are our family members and we will extend complete support to them regarding education or personal lives. We have no hang-ups about being seniors so can get away with anything,” said Nikhil, a final year student.
Mounica, a third year student said ragging is not a way to reach out to the juniors and win them over. They could become good friends for life, of course, depending on the seniors' behaviour.
Archana, an MBBS final year student, believed that acts of extreme cruelty are seen only in perverts but not normal people.
According to Avinash, studying final year, ragging (hurting, injuring, stripping etc) are barbaric acts and as doctors they are not supposed to support it. He also assured that they will be supportive to juniors in all circumstances.
