Karimnagar: Price rise pushes up hotel food bill 25 per cent

Black gram’s price has increased from Rs 100 to Rs 150

Karimnagar: Rising prices of essential food items like onions, lentil, red and green gram, groundnut, wheat flour and some vegetables have made them unaffordable. As a result, now prices of breakfasts, snacks and meal have increased by at least 25 per cent in all of the eateries run in the city. People are demanding the government to take steps to curb inflation.

Managements of most of the tiffin centres have erected notice boards stating rates of various food items have been hiked due to the recent inflation. Price of one plate idli, dosa, wada and uttappam has been increased from Rs 20 to Rs 25. Cost of snacks such as mirchi bajji, pakoda and others has risen too by over 20 per cent. And, one needs to shell out Rs 70 in place of Rs 60 charged in the past.

“We were forced to enhance the price structure of many food items following the unprecedented rise of rates of many key ingredients. For instance, black gram’s price has increased from around Rs 100 to Rs 150. Prices of almost every commodity has shot up. Purchasing the key ingredient onion has become a costly affair,” reasoned Ponnala Thirupathi Goud, one of the owners of Swagath tiffin centre on Karimnagar-Jagtial Road.

“I was stunned to find enhanced price structure of food items at the eateries of the city. Earlier, I was paying Rs 20 for taking any tiffin. But, the rates have been increased by 25 per cent. Government should take appropriate steps to reduce the rates of commodities. Else, poor families would not be able to afford lentil, red and green gram, ground nut and wheat flour,” said B. Parusuram, a resident of Chaitanyapuri.
