No acquisition, Andhra Pradesh to follow land pooling

Owners of about 600 acres, who had opposed LPS, have now given their consent

VIJAYAWADA: The state government on Friday decided not to go ahead with its plans to acquire land for Amaravati by enforcing the Land Acquisition Act and, instead, continue efforts to convince owners of about 3,800 acres to pool their lands for construction of the new capital for the state.

Minister P. Narayana told reporters here that after actor-politician Pawan Kalyan’s recent tour of the state capital region villages and opposition from the landowners, the state government has decided to stop the land acquisition process and continue to convince the property owners.

Mr Narayana said that the government’s efforts will continue till all the land demarcated for the new capital is pooled. He said that already, owners of about 600 acres of land, who had earlier opposed the LPS, have now given their consent.

“Other landowners will also come forward to give their lands for capital construction. I am confident that the government will be able to complete the land collection process by next Monday,” Mr Narayana said.
