Bengaluru: The Director General and Inspector General of Police, Om Prakash, will launch a mobile application to help people in distress reach out immediately to the police on Friday. The app will be launched at an event called the First Responder App, organised by the Karnataka State police in partnership with Target Corporation and Indiana University. Home Minister K.J. George will be the chief guest and the function that will be held at the DG-IGP’s office.
The mobile app is intended to help those who sense danger while they are alone. The app will have three panic buttons. When the first two buttons are pressed, an alert will be sent to the Hoysala team patrolling in the nearby locality while the third button will send an alert to the nearest police station.
Soon after the alert the received, the police will rush to the spot after zeroing on the GPS location of the mobile. By this, the cops will rush to the rescue of the person in distress in a much quicker pace.
Considering the increasing number of chain snatching incidents, the police department is constantly researching on measures to enhance and strengthen community policing.
“If crime is to be controlled, active participation of citizens is a must. The police are working towards gaining the confidence of the people and involving them in preventing crimes. The city police are making best use of technology and are connecting directly with the people in distress,” Om Prakash said.
