Ex-servicemen meet Rajnath Singh, seek early implementation of OROP

Singh assured them that necessary action would be taken by the government

New Delhi: A delegation of ex-servicemen on Friday met Home Minister Rajnath Singh and urged him to impress upon the government to implement the 'One Rank, One Pension' (OROP) scheme as early as possible.

The delegation gave a detailed presentation to the Home Minister about various aspects of OROP and apprised him that the demand of the former soldiers was justified.

Singh gave them a patience hearing and assured them that necessary action would be taken by the government, official sources said.

The Home Minister conveyed to the ex-servicemen that the government has in-principle accepted their demand and the work is on to find out a solution but it required some time, the sources said.

The ex-servicemen have been protesting for more than two months at Jantar Mantar in the national capital demanding early implementation of OROP.

Earlier today, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar said that small gaps still required to be filled for implementation of OROP and that the PMO was "directly involved" in finding a resolution to it.
