Mumbai: Former INX Media co-owner Indrani admitted to cops on Wednesday that she along with her former husband Sanjeev Khanna and the driver Shyamvar Rai killed her daughter Sheena by strangulating her in a car on April 24, 2012 in Mumbai.
The main characters in the murder mystery and the possible theories:
Indrani Mukherjea: Born to Upen Kumar Bora and Durga Rani Bora, hailing from Assam, Indrani is the main accused in the murder case of her daughter Sheena Bora.
After her schooling and graduation in Guwahati and Shillong, Indrani moved to Mumbai. She married Peter Mukerjea in 2002. They were co-founders of INX Media, which was later renamed 9X media.
Sheena Bora: Daughter of Siddart Das and Indrani. She was born in Guwahati and studied in St Xaviers College Mumbai. She was allegedly having an affair with her step brother Rahul. Sheena was murdered in April 2012.
Peter Mukerjea: It was his second marriage to Indrani in 2002. He was previously married to Shabnam and had two son – Rahul and Robin, who are in the UK. Peter joined Star TV as Sales Director in 1993 and quit as CEO of Star India until January 2007.
Vidhie Mukerjea, who is now in the UK, has been adopted by Peter.
Sanjeev runs a wireless communication business in Kolkata. Indrani and Sanjeev tied the knot in 1993.
Sanjeev had been arrested by the police on Wednesday evening in Kolkata.
Shyamvar Rai: Employed as driver for Mukerjeas for 10 years. He was fired soon after the alleged murder.
Rahul Mukerjea: Son of Peter Mukerjea and Shabnam currently in Mumbai and being questioned by the police. He allegedly had an affair with Sheena, which Indrani did not approve of.
The motive theories:
- Indrani was upset about Sheena’s and Rahul’s affair. She did not want them to continue their relationship.
- The possiblity of Sheena blackmailing Indrani that she would tell Peter she was her daughter, not sister.
- Indrani and Sanjeev had resumed their relationship. If they killed Sheena and then Mikhail, all the property would go to Vidhie.
