Centre yet to decide fate of land bill

‘If we do not reissue the ordinance, 13 other acts under which land will be acquired will lapse’

New Delhi: As the crucial Bihar Assembly polls get closer, the confusion within the Centre on repromulgation of the Land Acquisition Ordinance seems to be growing.

While a section wants it to lapse since the proposed legislation has been bitterly opposed by the Congress-led Opposition, another section wants it repromulgated for a record fourth time maintain its “continuity” as there is no possibility of a Bill being passed in Parliament to replace it by August 31, when the executive order expires.

“Let us see. The time is till 31 August. If we do not reissue the ordinance, the 13 other acts under which land will be acquired will lapse. Those who have to get jobs will not get it,” said Venkaiah Naidu.
