Old beauties roll on Chennai roads

The rally will be flagged off by Mr Kyunsoo Kim, consul general of Republic of Korea
Chennai: It’s not every day that one gets a chance to see Plymouth Savoy, Essex or an Austin Chummy making its way down bustling Chennai roads. Chenniites will relive history when these vintage beauties, some dating as far back as the late 1800s, motor down the streets in a heritage rally to be held at Don Bosco school on August 30. The cars are on display at the Vivanta by Taj – Connemara.
The cars were spotted on city roads on Sunday as they were driven to be parked on display at the Vivanta by Taj – Connemara. The MyTVS Heritage Car Rally has been a fitting tribute to the Madras Week celebrations and the 11th edition of the event will showcase a rare selection of cars and bikes.
Some of the vintage beauties that will parade down the streets this year include Jaguar Mark II (1952), Morris 8 Tourer (1946), Austin Chummy (1927), Dodge Brothers (1948), Chevrolet Fleetmaster (1947), Plymouth Savoy (1935), MGB UK (1966), Ford Anglia, Citroen Traction (1949) and Essex (1928).
The vehicles will be evaluated by a panel of judges including the likes of Raja Mookerjee and Partha Banik from Kolkata. The duo has several years of expertise between them. Aspects such as authenticity, restoration, condition and appeal will be taken into account. The rally will be flagged off by Mr Kyunsoo Kim, consul general of Republic of Korea.
