Section of Pachalam railway over bridge dismantled

Both the DMRC and the railways termed the work as “minor correction” while dismissing the charges
Kochi: A section of under-construction Pachalam Railway Over Bridge is being dismantled by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) as the local BJP has raised charges that the construction was in violation of railway specifications.
“The newly constructed concrete path at the western end of the RoB is being dismantled following an inspection by a team of railway engineers. In its bid to hasten the RoB construction, the DMRC failed to adhere to the railway construction specifications at multiple points. The lack of professionalism is causing wastage of public money,” said Abiju Suresh, local BJP leader.
However, both the DMRC and the railways termed the work as “minor correction” while dismissing the charges.
“The height of the concrete path was found to be more than the tracks during an inspection. Others aspects stuck to our specifications,” said an official of the Divisional Engineering department.
“It’s wrong to say the concrete path is being dismantled. What we are doing is just chipping away the top portion and levelling it,” said a DMRC official.
However, the BJP local unit called for a probe alleging that there was no consensus between the DMRC and the railways regarding RoB plan specifications.
