Chennai: The Chennai police on Friday registered a case against TNCC president EVKS Elangovan, who dragged himself into a controversy with his remarks on a meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and state Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa. Based on a complaint from R Valarmathi, a sacked employee of Tamil Nadu Congress Committee charitable trust, the Teynampet police booked him and Narayanan under five sections including those dealing with woman harassment, issuing threats, assaulting and abusing.
In her complaint, Valarmathi alleged that Elangovan and trust manager Narayanan had been swindling money generated through premises rented out, including Kamarajar Arangam, belonging to the TNCC charitable trust.
Justice S. Vaidyanathan, before whom the anticipatory bail petitions filed by Elangovan and G. Narayanan, administrative officer of the trust, came up for hearing, adjourned it to Aug. 24 after public prosecutor Shanmughavelayutham informed the court that he has to get instructions as to whether any complaint has been registered or not. Senior counsel V. Prakash and advocate Paul Kanagaraj, appearing for petitioners, submitted that following his statement with regard to a private meeting between the CM and PM, false defamation cases were filed against Elangovan.
