Students ransack hostel in Miyapur

The students alleged that the college did not provide drinking water and electricity

Hyderabad: Around 200 students ransacked the hostel premises at the NRI Academy in Gokul flats at Miyapur on Wednesday night.

Protesting the lack of drinking water and electricity at the hostel, they damaged furniture, ceiling fans and water taps at the dining hall and broke utensils in the kitchen. The students also attacked the admin principal Vijay Prakash, when he did not respond to their complaints.

Five days ago, the students had complained to the management regarding the lack of facilities.

On Wednesday, they entered into an argument with the staff during dinner over the same issue and the matter escalated. Mr Prakash is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Kukatpally.

The students alleged that the college did not provide drinking water and electricity, promised at the time of joining.

“They even promised ACs in the hostel campus, but it did not happen. Whenever we asked them, they postponed it due to some reason,” said one of the students.

Police has registered a case of rioting against seven students under Sections 147, 324, 341 and 427 of the IPC.
