Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday paid rich tributes to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on his 71st birth anniversary.
"Tributes to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi'ji on his birth anniversary. I knew him well and fondly remember him," Banerjee tweeted.

Rajiv Gandhi, who heralded the information and communication technology revolution in the country, was born on August 20, 1944 and served as Prime Minister from 1984 to 1989.
He was assassinated by the LTTE on May 21, 1991 at Sriperumbudur in Tamil Nadu during election campaign.
