Incidents of ragging in SV University have created unexpected pressure on the govt

Hyderabad: The death of Rishiteswari in Nagarjuna University, two students at the Narayana Junior College in Kadapa and incidents of ragging in SV University have created unexpected pressure on the government to bring an anti-ragging policy.
The YSRC and the Congress have announced that they would raise the incidents and the failure of the government machinery in preventing them, in the ensuing Assembly session.
Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao has been blamed for failing to put in place a mechanism to curb ragging and Dr P. Narayana is under fire for making his colleges ‘the centres of death’ YSRC chief Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy noted that 13 students had died in the Narayana Group colleges.
“We are not using these incidents for political ends but it is a fact that student community is up in arms. We would like to highlight this point,” said APCC chief N. Raguveera Reddy. The government has stated that these are isolated incidents and that parents and teachers should take the initiative to advise the wards not to resort to such acts. “Stringent laws are there and if they are implemented strictly, the future of students will be in jeopardy,” a senior government official said.
