Lucknow: In a shocking incident on the eve of I-Day, an Army jawan was lynched in Meerut district for protecting a young girl from a group of miscreants.
The incident took place in Haradev Nagar locality where a group of five youth were misbehaving with a girl.
The Army personnel, Lance Naik Ved Mitra Chaudhary, who was passing by, stopped and chased away the miscreants.
However, the miscreants returned minutes later, armed with rods and bricks and more accomplices and attacked the army man.
The Army man, Lance Naik Ved Mitra Chaudhary received severe head injuries and died during treatment.
SP City Om Prakash told reporters on Saturday that the matter was under investigation and some persons had been detained for interrogation.
