Though speculation ran high that Samantha might team up with national award-winning actor Dhanush for the second time after Velai Illa Pattadhari 2, we have it confirmed now, straight from the horse’s mouth. Yes, acclaimed filmmaker Vetri Maaran confirmed to DC that he is roping in Samantha for his next film, titled Vada Chennai, which stars Dhanush in the lead. The movie is produced by the actor’s home banner Wunderbar Films.
“I had discussed the script of Vada Chennai with Dhanush while we were working on Polladhavan. In fact, I opted for Samantha a few years ago for the female lead and even narrated the line to her. Somehow it did not materialise then and has come to shape only now,” Vetri Maaran reveals.
“The gangster flick is set in North Chennai and will have an ensemble cast, because there are many important characters featured in the script,” he adds. Meanwhile, Vetri Maaran is excited about his upcoming experimental venture and thriller Visaaranai, which has the credit of being the first Tamil film to enter in a competitive category at the 72nd Venice International Film Festival. One may recall that it was Simbu who was to act as the lead protagonist in Vada Chennai, and this had even been made official a few years ago.
