Madras High Court rejects Dayanidhi Maran's bail plea

Mr Maran had moved several courts to prevent the special task force from arresting him

Chennai: The Madras High Court on Monday rejected former minister Dayanidhi Maran’s plea for anticipatory bail in the case of allegedly running of an illegal BSNL exchange for the benefit of Sun TV, run by his brother Kalanidhi Maran.

After a request by Mr Maran’s counsel, the judge granted three days, that is on or before 4.30 pm on August 13, for Mr Maran to surrender before the relevant authority.

He had moved several courts to prevent the special task force from arresting him. Justice S. Vaidyanathan said, “I am of the considered view it is not appropriate to entertain the application for anticipatory bail.”

The illegal exchange was used to benefit Sun TV, and Mr Maran and the other accused were allegedly running private mini-exchanges from their homes illegally.
